FAQS & CANCELLATION POLICY

1. WHY BALLROOM DANCING?

Ballroom is a wonderful way to connect with your mind, body and soul. Ballroom also provides the perfect opportunity to learn new skills, challenge your brain with new patterns and exert your body to build your core strength and flexibility while burning calories. As you learn how to move, you will start releasing a rush of endorphins, making you feel great whether you're dancing by yourself or with a partner.

2. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN HOW TO DANCE?

Ballroom dance is a process that takes time and dedication. While some clients may see results earlier than others, we believe that a true transformation requires at least 12 weeks of consistent practice. Through regular private lessons, tailored to each client’s specific needs, we will work together to perfect your moves and routines. We generally recommend one to two private lessons per week in order to make steady progress and achieve your goals.

3. DO I NEED A PARTNER?

No, you do not need a partner. It is important for every individual to learn how to move and connect with your mind and body for quality movement.

4. SHOULD I JUST FOCUS ON ONE STYLE OF DANCE?

True dance mastery comes from being able to execute a variety of styles with precision and grace. That’s why we offer instruction in a wide range of ballroom dance styles, from the classic waltz to the energetic east coast swing. With our expert guidance, you can expand your repertoire and become a versatile dancer in no time.

5. MEN SAY THEY CAN'T DANCE, IS THIS TRUE?

If you're a guy who has never danced before, it's easy to feel intimidated by the thought of jumping into a new activity. But at Chris Williams Dance, we view ballroom dancing as an exciting challenge that anyone can learn and enjoy. The key is knowing how to present yourself, which is why our classes place a strong emphasis on leading skills. We teach you to communicate with your partner through dance, build your confidence, and have fun all at the same time. Sign up for a session today and see how much you can achieve!

6. SHOULD I TAKE 1 ON 1 OR GROUP CLASSES?

For those looking to kickstart their ballroom dance journey, we recommend trying a combination of group and private lessons. Group lessons provide clients with a chance to learn and practice alongside others, while private lessons give clients the individual attention and feedback they need to perfect their technique.

7. DO I NEED SHOES?

To take ballroom seriously, we highly recommend that both leaders and followers wear ballroom or Latin shoes with a leather sole during lessons. We advise against open-toed shoes, boots, or shoes with grips because they can actually hinder your technique and foot placement, which are essential to learning how to dance accurately. Trust us to guide you not only through the steps but also in the right gear to put you at the top of your game.

8. SHOULD I HAVE A GLASS OF WINE OR ALCOHOL TO LOOSEN UP BEFORE CLASS?!

Our classes are designed to help our clients develop their dancing skills from the fundamentals to more advanced techniques. While we encourage our students to let loose and enjoy the moment, we understand that a glass or two of wine might not be the best way to achieve that goal. For optimal dancing experience, we recommend that students come to class with an open mind and a clear head. We promise that you will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy a glass of wine with your fellow dancers after class!

9. SHOULD I HAVE A GOAL?

As a seasoned ballroom dancer and instructor with years of experience, I’ve had the opportunity to work with dancers of all levels. I believe that every dancer should have a clear goal to work towards, no matter what their level of expertise. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced dancer, I can help you create a roadmap to achieve your goals. My goal is to make sure that you have the skills and confidence to become an amazing social dancer, perform at showcases or even win a competition. Get in touch today, and let’s get started!

10. Are these classes included in a Lake Jackson Rec Center membership?

As a contracted instructor with Chris Williams Dance/Lake Jackson Ballroom Dancing, I operate independently from the Lake Jackson Rec Center. Therefore, my classes are separate from the Rec Center membership. Whether you're looking for private lessons or group classes, I'm here to teach you the art of Ballroom Dance.
